My name is Kay and I’m a grateful recovering addict. I started using from the age of 16, feeling different from everyone else I started using to fit in. Cocaine, cannabis and alcohol were my go to most days. I had my first child at 18 and struggled as a young mother by 27 I had 4 children and struggled to be emotionally available. In 2018 my using took off due to losing my dad, I started using crack and heroin.  Within months I’d lost my children my home and done things I never thought I was capable of.

I came into recovery in 2019 not knowing how to be myself I got caught up in drama and gossip and sent myself out the door when it all came back to bite me.  I went on an 8 month relapse having had a taste of recovery my using was not the same I entered into a dry house again just before the second lock down in 2020 and really knuckled down came slowly came off my methadone, went to college and started a bit of volunteering.  I promised myself I would never go back and I remind myself of that promise everyday.  I have 1 of my children back in my care and am working towards getting the other 3 home.  I follow a 12 step program and have a sponsor and good support network.  I help teach others about addiction/recovery.  My life is so far away from what it was it’s like looking back at someone else’s.  Anyone can change there life with the right help.

Kay, I only knew a little bit of your story from the times we have met. You will be an inspiration to other mums who have been separated from their children because of addiction. You’re not only doing a brilliant job in your recovery but passing the message and hope onto others. Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s working 🙏

*Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.

I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve presented in your post. They are really convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are very short for newbies. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.
